For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6 KJV)

There is joy in every city all over the world today because of a precious gift, the gift that God gave mankind. After Adam fell in the garden, all hope seemed lost, and it looked like the man that God created, breathed into and placed in the garden of Eden as His representative on earth, had just transferred his God-given authority to the devil. Yet God, who is rich in mercy and steadfast in love, did not abandon His creation. God knew man had a capacity to fall, so he planned a gift of restoration before it even happened in advance (1 Pet. 1:19-20). That gift is Jesus Christ, promised long before He appeared in Bethlehem. The prophet Isaiah declared this hope centuries ahead of time, as seen in our opening text.

Notice that Scripture says, โ€œa son is given.โ€ Salvation was not earned; it was given. Godโ€™s greatest response to the fall of Man was not judgment alone, but love and grace that became flesh to dwell among us. Jesus came as a gift to restore what was lost, reclaim authority from the enemy, and reconcile humanity back to God. Where Adam failed through disobedience, our Lord Jesus Christ succeeded through obedience to the Father, even unto his death on the cross.

The gift of God is not merely forgiveness of sins; it is the restoration of a relationship. In Christ, we receive peace instead of fear, purpose instead of confusion, and hope instead of despair. Jesus is called the Prince of Peace because He brings peace first between God and man, and then within our human hearts. He is the Wonderful Counsellor who guides us through lifeโ€™s uncertainties. He is the Mighty God who defeats every power that stands against us.

As we celebrate this Christmas, many gifts are exchanged and celebrated, but Godโ€™s gift is eternal and life-changing. Earthly gifts may bring temporary joy, but the gift of Jesus brings everlasting life. Romans 6:23 reminds us that โ€œthe gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.โ€ This gift demands a response of acceptance. We receive it by faith, humility, and surrender.

As you reflect today, remember that Godโ€™s gift to you is personal. Jesus was given for you. So, let gratitude fill your heart, and let your life reflect the value of the gift you have received from God.

Merry Christmas!!!

Prayer point:

  • Let us thank God for His word today.
  • Let’s ask for the Prince of peace to reign in our lives and the reason for this season to be made manifest in our lives in Jesus name.
