And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; [18] They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. (Mark 16:17-18 KJV)

Every group of people, tribe, and nation has common shared heritages or culture that had been passed down from generations before them and the present generation has continued in the same. For example, an English man will have a cup of tea or coffee in the morning whether it is winter or summer because he inherited the same practice and also continued therein. The survival of this culture is however dependent on individuals if they want to practice it or not due to their own personal reasons and as such, it may begin to die off gradually.

There is a cultural heritage in Christ that is fading off and is looking like an exclusive reserve for ministers of the gospel only whereas, it is for every believer. An average believer today is afraid to be called upon to cast out a devil from a possessed individual. He is scared partly because he is no longer sure if the demons will obey him due to the way he has been living his life which may not be consistent with the requirement of the kingdom. Secondly, he is afraid of being attacked by the devil and so, he avoids his heritage in Christ due to fear, intimidation, and ignorance not knowing he has been commissioned to fight as a soldier of Christ with victory assured (Eph. 6: 10-18).

Many great destinies have wasted away and have been badly molested by the devil. Many families have been destroyed because a believer who is supposed to exercise his or her authority by laying hands on the sick to recover, failed to do so. God has redeemed us for a time like this and the world is dependent on us exercising our heritage in Christ. The scriptures say in Romans 8:19 โ€œFor the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of Godโ€.

A believer who is upright should not have any business being afraid to exercise their divine authority. The reason why they take up serpents and will not be hurt even when they drink any deadly thing is that they are aware of the dominion heritage they have in Christ. Rev. 5:12 illustrates our redemptive rights in Christ. Therefore as believers, we must consciously begin to live in this light to see it manifest in and around our lives and give no more place to the devil.

Prayer point:
Letโ€™s thank God for the word today and let us pray for the boldness to always exercise the divine authority embedded in our heritage as believers.

God bless you.
