God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth’ โญโญ
being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
Philippiansโฌ โญ1:11โฌ โญNKJVโฌโฌย
Though we are saved by grace through faith, being fruitful is an important aspect of our walk with God. In fact, the reason he saved us is so we would bear fruit. The fruit of the life of a Christian speaks of the manifestation of the righteous qualities of God that we have received as a gift.
One of the reasons why bearing fruit is important to God is that it brings God glory and praise. This was affirmed in Philippians 1:11, when Apostle Paul said “โญโญbeing filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God (NKJV)”. Also, Jesus Christ said “โญโญBy this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples (John 15:8 NKJV). A fruitless life brings reproach to God (Rom. 2:24), but a fruitful life brings Him glory and praise.
Another reason why bearing fruit is important is that it is by it we are recognised as God’s ministers. When Jesus Christ was speaking about people who perform miracles or Prophesies in His name, He mentioned that the fruit they bear is how we will differentiate those who are His ministers and those who are not (Matt 7:15 – 20). A false minister (A Prophet or a Teacher etc), is simply a fruitless minister, though he or she may be a Christian. So to be recognised as a true minister of God, you need to be fruitful.
Furthermore, being fruitful leads to quick answers to our prayers. We bear fruit when we abide in Him. And Jesus Christ said “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you (โญโญJohnโฌ โญ15:7โฌ โญNKJVโฌโฌ)”. The reason why answers to prayers are delayed is usually because God wants us to be fruitful. For in that waiting season is when He prunes us. But once we become fruitful, there’s no more need to wait, except we are being tried.
Finally, if we are not fruitful, we may lose our salvation, for Jesus Christ said “โฌโฌEvery branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away... (โญโญJohnโฌ โญ15:2โฌ โญNKJV)”. The phrase “He takes away”ย means He takes out of Christ (who is the vine), the same way the Israelites were broken off from Him (See Romans 11:13 -18). When we bear fruit, we are making our election (salvation) sure ( 2 Peter 1:10).
Prayer Point.
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help each member of the body of Christ bear much fruit.
