You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. (Deuteronomy 6:5 ESV)
Solomon began his journey of rulership over Israel with the love of God deeply rooted in his heart. In 1 Kings 3:3, it says, “And Solomon loved the Lord”. This is one of the spiritual virtues he inherited from his father, David, who doubled as his mentor and life coach. This love of God was driving him to offer sacrifices that were inconceivable to man at the time. This opened him to the realm of encounters with the Lord. His mind was upgraded with the infusion of the Spirit of God, and he could know and understand things that he wasn’t taught, just like Daniel.
A lot of people worship, fast, and pray to receive things, but stop when their prayers are answered. It is meant to be a lifestyle, a continuous way of living. Ministering to the Lord in deep personal worship without expecting anything in return is more rewarding because he seeks those who will worship him in Spirit and in truth. When we love Him, we are empowered to keep His commands, and this becomes the true proof of our devotion to Him. Love for God is not expressed merely in words or emotions but in obedience, consistency, and an unwavering desire to please Him. Jesus said in John 14:15, โIf you love Me, keep My commandments.โ
The journey of love is also a journey of surrender. It calls us to lay down our ambitions, our pride, and our fears at the feet of Jesus. Just as Solomonโs early sacrifices drew divine encounters, our sacrifices of time, obedience, and faith draw us into deeper intimacy with God. In this place of love, we no longer serve God for what He gives but for who He is. Our hearts find rest, our minds find peace, and our spirits are renewed in His presence.
Finally, distractions must be avoided. This is a reminder that love must be guarded and nurtured. What begins as pure devotion can fade if not continually refreshed through fellowship with God. True love is not static; it grows stronger through trials, humility, and daily communion with the Father. Therefore, let your love for God be the compass of your life. Keep nurturing it through prayer, worship, and obedience. Let your love remain steadfast to the end. For the greatest journey we can ever embark upon is the journey of love, a walk that begins with God, is sustained by grace, and leads us into eternal fellowship with Him.
Prayer point:
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let us ask for a heart that loves God at all times.
