And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Matthew 16:19 KJV

When Lazarus was raised from the dead by the Lord Jesus, he exercised a kind of authority that was beyond the natural because he was able to open a door that had been closed by death over Lazarus and commanded him to come forth. This dimension of authority was spoken of by the Lord himself to be the “keys of the kingdom” which can bind and can lose. Heaven is the control room and nothing happens on earth without the approval of heaven.

The Lord was educating Peter in our opening verse on what these keys can do and what authority it has the power to wield. It has the capacity to compel heaven to align with the earth according to the word of the carrier. Peter will later use one of these keys to raise the man at the beautiful gate and the door of healing was flung open because Peter had the key (Acts 3:6-7). The keys of the kingdom confers authority on the carrier and in exercising this authority, they become custodians over specific realms of the kingdom.

Job possessed the key of prosperity (Job. 29:4-17) and the manifestation was evident for all to see in his days. Likewise, Elijah possessed the key of power and could call down fire from heaven (2Kings 1:10). Paul and the Apostles had the key of witness to unbelievers through the conviction of the Holy Ghost and also possess the key to the supernatural by doing miracles, signs and wonders whilst winning souls to the kingdom (Acts 5:12).

However, there are many keys but the good thing is that they are gifts from the Lord himself (Eph. 4:7). We can therefore desire them through intimacy, alignment, and faith. The whole earth is waiting for the children of the kingdom to manifest with keys and it is God’s desire to release them to us to propagate the increase and expansion of His kingdom.

Let’s thank God for today. Let us ask Him for specific keys to maximise our spiritual journey, win souls into the kingdom and also bring glory to His name.
