Some years ago, my father in the Lord was invited to preach in a church in Berlin. Being in Germany at that time, I attended the conference that lasted several days. Seeing me in the conference, he called me out as though I was a special guest and honoured me before everyone. Knowing his status, I knew that I was not so important to be treated like that. However, as he taught, he mentioned, “The way you want others to treat you, do it to them.”. Then I understood that he was sowing a seed of honour when he honoured me before all.

Reading through scriptures recently, I encountered Matthew 7:12, “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets” (NIV), and it reminded me of my experience with my father in the Lord. We can influence the actions of people around us by reflecting to them how we want them to act towards us. You cannot be disrespectful and mean and expect others to treat you with respect and honour.

The law of sowing and reaping is not just applicable to money but also to our attitude and actions towards others. When you sow love, respect, and honour, you will reap love, respect, and honour in multifold. Your reward may not come from those you sowed into, but God will always cause you to reap what you have sown.

Let us be conscious of this reality as we relate to all, as it will help us treat others with respect and dignity, knowing that how we treat others is how God will cause us to be treated.

Let us thank God for His word. Let us ask Him to help believers sow good seeds in the lives of others while being conscious of the reward.
