For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.ย (Psalm 18:28 KJV)

Something phenomenal happened in one of the west African countries in 1999. A man who had been convicted and kept in prison was released by the new government. This man will go on to contest the presidential election and win, becoming the next president in the same country where he had been incarcerated. It was like a dream and he was almost like the proverbial Joseph. When all hope seems lost and his greatest desire was just to be free and be with his family, God had greater plans and lit his candle because he is a child of the Most high.

According to 1 Pet. 2:9, this is the heritage of the children of God.
โ€œBut ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:โ€
Lighting oneโ€™s candle means to be sought out and preferred amongst many. Even though from all indices, it may look like you are not worthy of the position, favour or blessing, God uses his sovereignty to light up his childrenโ€™s candle.

For anyone going through challenging and dark times, the Lord specialises in enlightening the darkness of his people and turning sad stories into joyful times.

As the year gradually draws to a close, it is time to take inventory of what the Lord has done and give thanks for them. Also, commit those desires of your heart that seem too great to accomplish unto him and he that turned a former prisoner into a president will light your candle and enlighten your darkness for the whole world to see.

Prayer point:
Letโ€™s thank God for all he has done for us this year. Let us ask Him to light our candles and make us a spectacle to our world.

God bless you!
