3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Deuteronomy 8:3 NIV
As humans, we have many desires. One may think that when I get this or that, then I will be satisfied. Then they get it and desire something else again. However, the Lord wants us to know that only He truly satisfies us.
Idol worshippers are always in pursuit of a new god, a better one. So they end up having countless gods. This is true for anyone who does not know the one and only true living God, Jesus Christ.
However, the Lord takes His children through an education to make them learn how to depend more and more on Him and be satisfied in Him. To make us seek Him more, He can take us through a season of lack in an area so that we can turn towards His word for comfort and strength.
The season of lack is then like a bait to attract you to seek Him and seek His word.
God is found in His word. So when we are spending time in His word, we are spending time with Him. The end goal then is to make us realise how wonderful He is, even more than what we desire from God.
Does God not want us to enjoy His good gifts? Absolutely No. But the season of lack is to push you to seek and rely on His word and learn to be satisfied in Him.
When the Lord eventually grants your desire in an area, you would not be swayed by the gift to abandon God because you have learnt to be satisfied in Him.
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for the word today. Let’s ask the Lord to help us seek His word today so that we can be satisfied in Him.
