In the building of a multi-storey residential structure, there are different phases that must first happen before the actual construction. There is the planning phase, and there is also the design phase where the architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical designs are generated which will in turn be used by the Quantity surveyor to produce a cost estimate. However, most people only see the structure when it’s being built not knowing that a lot has gone on in the background to bring the structure to life. So it is in the body of Christ, many things and people must be working behind the scenes to strengthen those called into the five-fold ministry. One such is those in the Ministry of Helps.

In John 6:8-9, the miracle of multiplication and feeding the multitude was recorded and also in the other three books of the gospel but it was made possible because a young lad offered to release his own five loaves and two fishes. He was selfless and cared less about himself, even if it meant he will go hungry for others to be filled. This attitude displayed by this young man indicated that he belonged to the ministry of helps because he strengthened the ministry of the Lord by his sacrifice.

Most believers are first called into the ministry of helps before subsequent assignments but not all are heeding this call but have rather chosen to be among the congregation to be blessed like the multitude that Jesus fed. Simon Peter first gave his ship as a pulpit where the master could preach the word of life without being pressed at (Luke 5:3). He then became a disciple and will later be appointed as an apostle unto the Jews.

The gifts you have, the organisational skills, the people management skills, the financial resources, the wisdom to get things done, the influence you can wield in your circle, and the material blessings that God has bestowed on you were deposited so the body of Christ can be strengthened. The Good thing is that God knows your capacity but when he comes to ask you to disburse these resources to others, does your heart conflict and give excuses why you can’t? Job walked faithfully, fulfilling this for almost all His life without failing (Job 29:15-16) and God is still looking for more Jobs in this generation who will surrender their blessings, giftings, and resources for God’s use without hesitation. Are you going to be among the number or should God look further?

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s pray for grace to not forsake our assignment in strengthening the body of Christ.
