Enter through the narrow gate.ย For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.ย  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Mathew 7: 13-14ย

ย

As Christians, Jesus says we are in the world but not of the world (John 15:19-21). Our views may not always be the popular opinion, but we stand on the word of God. As the opening verse says, ours is a narrow way that only a few travel. ย

Sometimes it seems like the believer’s life is harder than the unbeliever’s life. For some it is foolish. To some it seems outright impossible. For instance, they ask how a young man or woman can abstain from sex until marriage. Myself sometimes I am tempted to think my life is harder because I am a Christian. The worldly ways seem โ€œfreeโ€, unrestricted, easier, so it is wide and many travel it. By contrast the way of Christ seems confined, restricted, difficult and a few are traveling it. Nonetheless, the reality is, life is hard for everyone. In fact the reason you appreciate the presence of any pleasure is because you experience its absence for a while. The unbeliever also suffers. The believer is a slave to righteousness, the other is a slave to sin (Romans 6:18).ย

However, the idea that the believer’s life is harder which scares some people away is mostly false analyzing it from a life span point of view (even when it is, it is still worth it) and we can see this from Scriptures and observing the lives of those in our generation. Jesus saysย in Mathew 11: 28 โ€“ 30

โ€œCome to me,ย all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.ย Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,ย for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.ย 30ย For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.โ€

So, although there is still a yoke(suffering) to carry, it is easier and there is an accessible rest for our souls. So even when we are suffering in the flesh our souls can still be at rest in Him. The way of Christ is a way of discipline, and we know that discipline produces fruits and a lack of it produces regrets. So, which is better, to suffer discipline or suffer regret? Another important reason it is easier is because we can access help from God to do His will by prayer, word study, thanksgiving and worship (Philippians 4:13, Philippians 4:6-7). So, it is no longer just you but God working in you (1 Corinthians 15:10). Again, when we fall into temptation we can immediately repent and return to Christ like Apostle Peter (Luke 22:54-62). ย

The path of Jesus is narrow, but it leads to a fruitful life and eternal happiness. ย
