And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. Mark 4:39 KJV

In the course of fulfilling His earthly ministry, Jesus Christ and His disciples experienced something that is note worthy. At sea, as they crossed to Gadarenes, a wind struck their boat while Jesus was sound asleep (Mark 4:35 -37). This wasn’t just ordinary wind, but this was the enemy trying to stop them from crossing over because he knew that God had sent Jesus to set free the man possessed with a legion of devils (Mark 5:2,8-15).

This situation at sea was similar to what Apostle Paul experienced while being taken to Rome as a prisoner (Acts 27). This trip to Rome wasn’t just any trip, but one that he had longed for as he intended to impart the Roman Church with some spiritual gift, which would lead to their establishment in the faith (Rom. 1:11). Because the devil knew the importance of this trip, He sent a wind to disrupt their journey.

The wind in the portions of the scriptures above represents the challenges we encounter in the course of doing that which the Lord has instructed. The enemy will always act to stop you from your assignment, as the ministry reconciliation is a direct confrontation with the enemy. However, as Jesus indicated in his question to the disciples, we need faith to overcome in such times (Mark 4:40).

The demonstration of the faith needed to overcome in this time can manifest in different ways. For Jesus in the boat with His disciple, all He did was to rebuke the wind and He spoke to the sea and there was great calm (Mark 4:39). But for Apostle Paul with the Roman soldiers, he didn’t rebuke the wind but believed the word of the Angel that said his life and that of the others will be spared (Acts 27:25). Being sensitive to the Lord in this time will reveal the expected act of faith He wants us to demonstrate.

Faith is an important aspect of our walk with God and in the fulfilment of His assignment. As we build our faith by listening to the word and speaking in tongues, our capacity is increased to be able to withstand the storms of life.

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us build our faith.
