If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. (James 1:5 KJV)

Recently, I had a task at work that looked daunting. Everyone was waiting for results, but I was struggling. So, I began to ask God to give me skill and understanding on that assignment, like he did for Daniel when he sent the angel Gabriel to him. He answered my prayers and within a few weeks, I did not only deliver results, but I became a subject matter expert that everybody comes to for solution in that area. What I have asked God in simple language is called wisdom, and He gave it to me.

Wisdom comes in various ways, but my focus is on knowing what to do and how to go about it. It is very frustrating to be clueless in the face of situations. It can promote anxiety, which can lead to depression. You would probably have heard these words, ” I don’t know what to do anymore”. The antidote to that statement is wisdom, and God can give it.

The wisdom or understanding of a task, assignment, or daily living provokes confidence because you know how to. The scripture describes the labour of the foolish man (someone without wisdom) as wearing everyone because he knows not how (Ecc. 10:15). When Jesus was twelve years old, doctors of the law were marvelled at his wisdom when he interacted with them in the synagogue.

In Proverbs 4:7, David said to Solomon, “wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom and in all thy getting, get understanding”. Wisdom singled out Solomon from all the kings in Israel and we are still learning from him today. Wisdom gives you a seat among the noble and clothes you with honour. It is, therefore, non-negotiable that we cry for wisdom.

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let us ask Him to fill us up with the spirit of wisdom in all areas of our lives.
