“And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.”Romans 11:6 NIV
The division in the body of Christ has never been more apparent than it is today. Ministers with good intentions express opposing opinions. Usually, before God redeems something, He reveals it. Therefore, I believe the division seen today in the body of Christ is from Him, for He desires to redeem it.
One of the signs preceding Jesus Christ’s return is that we will attain unity in faith and knowledge of the Son of God, indicating maturity as a body (Ephesians 4:13). To achieve this unity, we must strike a balance in our views of Jesus Christ and the salvation He brought.
Although opinions vary, they primarily revolve around two perspectives: We must live holy lives (perform righteous works) to be saved (to make heaven as some put it) or receive God’s blessings, and we do not need works to be saved or receive blessings, but only faith in Christ.
These diverse opinions on salvation and accessing blessings of God are not new; they date back to biblical times. This was the reason Apostle Paul and Barnabas returned to Jerusalem to defend their message to the Gentiles (see Acts 15). The entire book of Galatians was written to address this issue. Consequently, we can resolve our current differing views on salvation and access to the blessings by drawing from the biblical solution.
Salvation is solely by grace through faith, not by works (Ephesians 2:8). Attempting to live holy (performing righteous works) to earn salvation (or make heaven) denies the free gift of salvation Christ brought. However, though saved by grace through faith, we are expected to walk in righteousness, not to earn salvation but because we are saved. Righteousness is our new nature; thus, walking in righteousness is natural. As we behold Jesus through the Word, we receive grace to progressively manifest His glory (2 Corinthians 3:18).
Similarly, every other blessing in Christ (prosperity, healing, spiritual gifts, etc.) is a gift of grace, not works. Although God may lead you to give, pray, and fast to see these blessings manifest, it is not our works that earn the blessings (see Ephesians 1:3). The ability to do these things (give, pray, and fast) is also an act of grace, for He is the one that enables us to will and act according to His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13).
Simply resting on God’s grace will empower you to walk in Righteousness but depending on your righteousness for salvation or to make heaven is a sign that you have fallen from grace.
Prayer Point
