“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
John 14:27 (NIV)
God desires for us to carry His peace at all times. The peace of God is a powerful force, serving as a guide to discern His will from what is not. Yet, this peace resides in a specific place. To carry it consistently, we must access and remain in that place.
When Jesus spoke of peace, He distinguished between the peace the world offers and the peace He provides (John 14:27). The worldโs peace depends on the absence of external conflict or discomfort, but Godโs peace thrives even amid war or distressing circumstances. This is how men like Joseph could remain steadfast and hopeful, looking toward the future despite enduring slavery and imprisonment.
Godโs peace is an internal gift. It transcends understanding, defying human logic and calming the mind with the assurance that all will be well, regardless of the situation. This peace is not merely a feelingโit is a person: Jesus Christ, who is our peace (Ephesians 2:14). To possess His peace, we must dwell in Him continually. As Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world”ย (John 16:33).
We abide in Him by immersing ourselves in His Word. When we fill our minds with His promises, our perspective shifts. The circumstances around us lose their power to define our hope, for we trust in Godโs plans and the future He has promised (Jeremiah 29:11). Additionally, we activate the guarding power of His peace by casting our cares upon Him through prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6-7).
Furthermore, God always leads in the path of peace, for He leads beside still waters (Psalms 23:2). Following the leading of God helps you to remain in His peace!
Prayer Point
Letโs thank God for His Word today. Letโs ask Him to help every believer abide in Him, casting our cares upon Him so we may always carry His peace.
