By: Daniel Peter
Date: 06.22.2023
As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
James 5:11
It was said that the book of Job is one of the earliest books of the Bible that was written. Almost every generation has been made to receive the comfort found in this book. Now, why is this book important? It is important because it helps us to see the true nature of God in the midst of severe trials.
One would never doubt the power of God, for the truth that He is Almighty is evident from what is made. Again, knowing His sovereign nature, why does He not always act to save or deliver one from a situation that is evil? God is good, but why does He allow evil to happen? These questions are some of the things our logical minds may pose to us when we observe a situation similar to Job’s. However, through what was written in the book of Job, a view was given of the conversation that happens in heaven when God permits one to be tested. The things written can make us at least see that a good God can allow a righteous person to suffer, we can understand His motive for such trials, and His expectations from us during that season.
For the reasons stated above, James wrote that the church should consider the perseverance of Job. The reason is that for every believer who would grow into full maturity will be made to experience long-suffering. During this period, many may consider the true nature of the goodness of God because of the pain of the experience. With such stories like Job, we can be comforted and have hope for restoration. Again, with what was written in the book of Job, we can be compassionate towards one being tested, because we know that not every evil experience is as a result of sin. Job was tested because He feared God and was perfect.
