Forgiveness is one of the hardest commands Jesus gave us. It asks us to let go of our right to be angry, to stop replaying the hurt, and to extend grace even when it feels undeserved. Yet, forgiveness is not about approving what was wrong—it’s about setting ourselves free from the chains of bitterness.

When Jesus hung on the cross, He said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34). Those words weren’t just for the soldiers who nailed Him there—they were for us. Christ’s forgiveness is our example and our empowerment to forgive others.

Holding on to anger can poison the heart, but forgiveness brings healing. It releases us from emotional captivity and restores peace with God and others.

Holding onto bitterness, hurt, and unforgiveness can indeed block us from receiving blessings and experiencing healing and restoration. It’s like carrying a heavy weight that prevents us from moving forward.

Forgiveness allows us to release that weight and create space for positivity, love, and blessings to flow into our lives. It’s not always easy, but it’s often a necessary step towards healing and freedom.

•⁠ ⁠How does remembering God’s forgiveness toward you help you forgive others?

Ponder on these, and I pray God will help you to make that decision today.
