I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways. [16] I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.
Psalms 119:15-16 NKJV
In Part 1, we explored the biblical foundation of meditation—how it draws us closer to God, grounds us in His truth, and becomes a channel for divine wisdom and peace. Now in Part 2, we will look deeper into how we meditate and why it transforms not only our minds but our entire spiritual walk with God.
Meditation renews the mind. Apostle Paul urges believers to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2). This renewal doesn’t happen passively—it requires intentional focus. When we meditate on Scripture, we allow God’s truth to replace lies, fears, and worldly thinking. Our minds become aligned with His promises, and our perspective begins to shift from earthly concerns to eternal truths.
Meditation Fuels Obedience. Joshua 1:8 commands: “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.” The result? “Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Biblical meditation isn’t about emptying the mind—it’s about filling it with God’s Word so deeply that it overflows into our actions. When we meditate, we don’t just hear God’s instructions—we begin to walk them out.
Meditation Cultivates Intimacy with God. The goal of meditation is not just information—it’s communion. As we slow down, reflect, and sit with the Word, we begin to sense God’s nearness more clearly. The Holy Spirit brings verses to life, convicts, comforts, and speaks in the quiet places of our hearts. Meditation makes room for God to meet with us.
Here are the Practical Steps to Biblical Meditation
- Choose a verse or passage – Start with Psalms, Proverbs, or the Gospels.
- Read slowly and prayerfully – Don’t rush; let the words sink in.
- Repeat key phrases – Speak them aloud or write them down.
- Reflect on God’s character and promises – What does this reveal about who He is?
- Respond in prayer – Turn your thoughts into worship or petition.
My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises.
Psalm 119:148 NIV
Even in the busyness of life, a few moments of focused meditation can recalibrate the soul. It is not about perfection, but pursuit, choosing daily to draw near to the One who speaks through His Word.
Prayet Points
Let’s ask God to renew our minds daily through His Word. Let’s pray for consistency and depth in our meditation times. Let’s invite the Holy Spirit to speak to us as we meditate, making the Word come alive in us.
