If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified. I Peter 4:14 NKJV

It is God’s will that each believer manifests His glory. This was God’s intention from the beginning, and it’s the true meaning of the statement ” let us make man in our image and likeness” made by God when declaring His intent for the creation of man in Genesis 1:26. Now, despite Christ having paid this price for us to manifest His glory, there’s still a price for us to pay.

The cross was the price Christ paid for us. As long as we believe in Him as the Son of God, then we can have access to the blessings that came from His death and resurrection. However, these blessings, His glory included, are all located in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Eph. 1:3), that is, in the spirit. For the glory of God, which is in the spirit, to be made manifest on earth, we have to take up our cross and follow Him (Matt. 16:24). Yes, the cross is the price we also pay to manifest the glory of God.

The cross is the symbol of the sufferings that follow our obedience to Christ. Just like Christ suffered for a while as a result of His obedience to the Father, there is a necessary suffering that will accompany our obedience to the Lord. This is usually for a while. This was what Apostle Peter was highlighting, when he said “If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you… (I Peter 4:14 NKJV)”. The reproach, which may be in the form of rejection or persecution etc, is the cross for bearing the name.

The cross (suffering) as a price for glory was common knowledge among the disciples of old, this was why it was recorded that the Apostles rejoiced that they were “… counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name (Acts 5:41). In fact, Apostle Paul was bold to make the assertion that “... if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together (Rom. 8:17 NKJV)”, making suffering a necessary condition for glory. Sadly, this truth seems to have been rejected by a large section of the Church today.

No pain, no gain the world will say, no cross no glory Christ has said. The earlier we accept this truth, the quicker the glory of God will be made manifest in our lives.

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask for grace to submit to His will, even if it requires us to suffer for a while.
