18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19ย But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:(1 Peter 1:18-19)
By the virtue of human relationship with the physical environment, customs and concepts are set through the brain logic to form a system that standardizes the social and financial sector in every society. God Almighty blessed man with superior consciousness of the natural so that man can intelligently manage earthly abundance. Well organized institutions and systems have helped men in ages to be able to coordinate life profoundly. With the help of the systems, lofty discoveries were made, knowledge is taught which corroborate laudable advancement in all ramifications of life. It is knowledge that demystifies ignorance which mastermind understanding the need to attach value to everything in order to run activities, demands, skills, services etc efficiently.
We now know that everything significant or insignificant is determined by its value or worth. It is with that perspective, we attach priority to all things. We use yardstick of value to give label or price tag to resources, service or items. In that respect, we categorize expensive and cheap things. There are certain commodities in the physical that are of great value; such are diamond, precious stone, gold, gem stone, silver, crude oil etc. Now, people chase after them not because they are really special, but because a human value system is attached to them, that whoever possesses them is acknowledged to be wealthy or prosperous. People of the world kill, backbite, commit heinous crimes just to have them knowing that having them equate to power, respect, honor and relevance in the eyes of the society.
The scriptures use allegories to describe the kingdom mysteries, wealth, wisdom and power using earthly viewpoints so that even the less privileged and uneducated can comprehend easily. God in His infinite wisdom through the scripture is drawing our attention using the value of the most expensive earthly resources to remind us that it took the precious blood of Jesus Christ, which is by far the most expensive thing to remind us of His pure love, sacrifice, mercy and grace. The least we can do to reciprocate such unmerited gesture is to live for Him. He expects us to attach far relevance to our new life in Christ which was bought with the blood of His son through redemption (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and that the life we ought to live to is glorify Him. Just the way an owner of diamond or gold treats it carefully so are we charged to live righteously.
Prayer point:
Let’s thank God for the word, let’s ask for grace to take our salvation seriously by attaching relevance to the blood that saved us.
