Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. [4] Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.(Psalm 141:3-4)

One of the salient reasons Davidโ€™s walk pleased the Lord was his total reliance on God on every issue of his life. He even relied on God to keep him away from sin. Almost all through the adult life of David, he was a commander and leader of men both as a military commander and as a king who was lord over his subjects. As a leader, people looked up to him for judgement, courage, integrity, wisdom, economic strategies, military might e.t.c and gave him no room for error.

It is therefore very hard not to offend in words (James 3:2), treat people harshly or device wickedness against others to keep the throne and his relevance ( which king Saul did continually). David realised he couldnโ€™t lead without falling into sin if God doesnโ€™t set a watch before his mouth refraining him from making utterances that could defile. Also, he made God the captain of his heart, to stir him away from them that do wicked works and evil things.

Part of the manifestation of the Spirit after redemption in the life of a believer comes as promptings and one of them is the prompting of righteousness where you feel something holding you back from engaging in sin, corrupt associations, or doing things against the will of God. This prompting also comes when you are about to say certain things that may not glorify God and makes you swallow your outburst when people make you angry. All of these require that we be sensitive so we donโ€™t grieve the Holy ghost because the Spirit will always come to prompt us when we are about to slide into unrighteousness (Jn 6:63).

We must therefore embrace this help from the Holy ghost to live above sin and triumph over the desires of the devil who wants us to become subject to his bondages through sin. The promptings of righteousness will always come and it is required of us as children of the Most High to hearken and be led by His Spirit.

Prayer point:
Let us thank God for the word today. Letโ€™s pray for a sensitive spirit to recognise the promptings of righteousness when it comes.

God bless you!
