Title: The Prophet’s Reward

He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.
(Matthew 10:41 NKJV)
There was a time when the Prophet Elisha went to the town of Shunem. He met a very wealthy woman who urged him to come to her house for a meal. Since she realized that Elisha was a holy man of God, she even asked her husband to furnish one room in their house for him so he would live with them whenever he visits their town.
Her hospitality really touched Elisha that he wanted to do something for her in return. He got to know from his servant that the woman and the husband had been married for a long time without a child. He therefore prophesied to her that she would have a son the following year and it surely came to pass (2 Kings 4:8-37).
We all know that the Lord has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in Christ (Eph 1:3). We also know that He has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus (2 Pet 1:3). However, the Lord sometimes places the manifestations of some blessings in the mouth or the authority of other earthen vessels (2 Cor 4:7). This means that we sometimes have to go through these human vessels to receive the answers to some of the things we have been praying for.
When Jesus sent out His disciples, He told them that anyone who gives them even a cup of cold water will surely be rewarded (Matt 10:42). Based on how we treat these human vessels will determine whether we will see the manifestations of some blessings in our lives or not. This is the reason why we have to treat everyone we encounter with respect and show them love. Also, let’s not judge others by appearance because some of these vessels might not appear in the way we expect them to.
Are we humble enough to submit and receive from anyone, irrespective of their appearance or status in society? One obstacle we have to be careful of is “Familiarity”. This is because some of these vessels might be those who are close to us. Some of them could be our close friends, family members, colleagues, and classmates. We might even be older than some of these people. Our Lord Jesus Christ couldn’t perform great miracles in His hometown because of familiarity (Mark 6:5).
Beloved in the Lord, God might sometimes send people into our lives to be a blessing to us. How we treat such people will determine whether we will see the manifestations of some blessings in our lives or not. Let’s therefore overcome familiarity and judging by appearance and show love to anyone we encounter. Receive a prophet in the name of a prophet to receive a prophet’s reward!
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for His Word today. Let’s ask the Lord to help all Believers to receive and do good to anyone He sends to us.
God bless you all!
