Delay is one of the hardest tests of faith. When answers do not come quickly, the heart can grow tired and discouraged. Yet Scripture reminds us that delay is not denial, and waiting does not mean God is absent.

The Bible is filled with people who experienced delay. Abraham waited years for the promised son (Genesis 21:1โ€“2). Joseph endured imprisonment before God fulfilled his dreams (Genesis 41:39โ€“41). David was anointed king long before he wore the crown (1 Samuel 16:13; 2 Samuel 5:4). In every case, God was working during the waiting. โ€œThough it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarryโ€ (Habakkuk 2:3).

Delay tests the depth of our trust in God. It teaches patience, strengthens endurance, and shifts our dependence from outcomes to obedience. โ€œBut let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothingโ€ (James 1:4). What God does in us during the delay often prepares us for what He will do for us afterwards.

This truth becomes even clearer when we consider the delay of the return of Jesus Christ. From the early church until now, believers have waited for His coming. Some question why He has not yet returned, but Scripture answers clearly: โ€œThe Lord is not slack concerning His promiseโ€ฆ but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentanceโ€ (2 Peter 3:9). The delay is not weaknessโ€”it is mercy.

While we wait, God calls us to remain watchful and faithful. โ€œTherefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expectโ€ (Matthew 24:44). The danger is not the delay itself, but becoming careless during the waiting. Those who believe His promise live holy and prepared lives.

The delay will not last forever. โ€œFor the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shoutโ€ (1 Thessalonians 4:16). Just as God has fulfilled every promise in the past, He will fulfil this one. Jesus Christ is certainly coming back. Until then, we wait with faith, obedience, and confident hope.

PRAYERS POINTS

1. Let’s thank God for His word.
2. Let’s ask for the grace to wait on Him even when it seems delayed.
3. Let’s ask God to strengthen our inner man.
