Title: The Reason for the Trial

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
(Jas 1:2-3 KJV)
The book of Job is one of my favourite books in the bible. Its unique storyline, the narration of the different perspectives of the characters in the story, and the insight into how God and the devil relate when it comes to the affairs of humans are a few things that make it stand out among other books in the Bible. From the record of the discourse that ensued between Job and His friends, the question they were all trying to answer was โwhy did God allow Job to suffer the way he did?โ.
Many believers today are undergoing trials and tribulations similar to Jobโs, and are trying to make sense of their experience but canโt figure out why the good God they believe in will allow such evil to happen to them. Like Job, they wonder how despite they have been diligent in the faith, obeying Godโs precepts and loving Him with the whole of their heart to the best of their ability, they still have to suffer like one without Him. This situation can be daunting, discouraging, and it can make you feel disappointed by God. However, there are things in scriptures that can help us discern what’s in the mind of God in the moments of our pain and find comfort in distressing times.
One of the things you need to know is that the very fact that God allowed you to be tried by evil experiences is a sign that He trusts you. Job was not tempted because He sinned, but because He didnโt sin. This may be against the human standard of right and wrong, but it was the case. Job was described as perfect, and as one who feared the Lord (Job 1:1). From the interaction between God and the devil, the trial was to see if Job’s attitude and convictions about God will change because of His ill health and the loss of things. Please consider, Is it possible that the reason God hasnโt healed you despite having enough faith for it is that God wants to see if you will keep believing that He has the power to heal even if your situation doesnโt change? Is it possible that God has boasted about you among the Angels in heaven and demons in hell that your love for Him is not because of the things He gives but who He is, and your trial is to prove Him true among them? Trials are only for those with faith, thatโs why it is referred to as trying of faith (1 Pater 1:7). So, the very fact that you are tried is proof that you have faith, and like Job, God is very pleased with you.
Another thing we need to know is that God is looking for examples (Models). Though Jesus Christ is our chief example of how to endure suffering (1 Peter 2:21), this glory of His was also manifested by certain individuals in scriptures. Job was taken as an example by James when he was encouraging the Church to endure trials (James 5:11), God used David as an example of His faithfulness for all the kings that came after Him and us in Christ, and Abraham is a Father of all who imitate His faith. Just like them, God wants to use you as an example to those who will face the same trial as yours. This is how we become living epistles when the same comfort the scriptures gives is received by those who observe our lives for the same truth can be found in us.
Knowing the above brings comfort in times of trials and helps you to receive His love amid your pain.
Prayer Point:
Letโs thank God for His word today. Letโs also ask Him to help all undergoing trials to see Him in their situation.
God bless you all
