Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, โOh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.โ And God granted his request. 1 Chronicles 4:10 (NIV)
Life is full of challenges, and as believers, we often find ourselves facing situations that seem overwhelming. It is natural to feel frustrated or discouraged, but how we respond to these challenges determines our outcome. Many times, instead of praying, we grumble and complain. We tell everyone about our struggles except God, the One who has the power to change them.
Complaining does not move God but faith-filled prayers do. In our opening text, the Bible tells us about a man named Jabez, whose name meant “pain.” He could have spent his life complaining about his circumstances, blaming his past, or feeling sorry for himself. Instead, he chose a different path and he prayed. He called upon God with a heartfelt request, asking for blessing, enlargement, divine presence, and protection. And the Bible says, โGod granted his request”.
From the life of Jabez, we see that God responds to prayer, not complaints. Though God knows what we are going through, He still expects us to call upon Him. He desires a relationship with us where we trust Him enough to bring our struggles before Him in faith.
Philippians 4:6 reminds us, โDo not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.โ This means that instead of worrying or murmuring, we should turn our concerns into prayers. When we do this, we invite Godโs intervention to recreate our situation.
Like Jabez, we must approach God with boldness, believing that He is able to change our circumstances. Whether we need provision, healing, direction, or deliverance, we must pray instead of complaining. The more we pray, the more we will see Godโs power at work in our lives.
Prayer point:
Let us thank God for His word today. Let us ask Him to change every notable negative circumstances and recreate them for good in our lives.
