Jesus said to her, โ€œI am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?โ€

(John 11:25-26 NKJV)

ย

There was a time when a family very close to Jesus was going through pain and sorrow. Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha, had fallen seriously ill. They sent word to Jesus, believing that He could come and heal him. But Jesus stayed where He was a few more days, and by the time He arrived, Lazarus was already dead and buried for four days (Jn 11).

When Jesus arrived in Bethany, Martha ran to meet Him. In her grief and disappointment, she said, โ€œLord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.โ€ It was in this moment of sorrow and seeming hopelessness that Jesus revealed something profound: โ€œI am the resurrection and the life (Jn 11:25).โ€

Many of us may find ourselves in situations that feel lifeless โ€” situations that seem dead and buried. It could be a broken relationship, a lost opportunity, a failing health, or even a weakening faith. Like Martha, you may feel like Jesus arrived too late. But the truth is: Jesus is never late, because He is the resurrection and the life.

Jesus was telling Martha โ€” and all of us โ€” that the power of life and death is in His hands. He doesnโ€™t just bring resurrection; He is the Resurrection. He doesnโ€™t just give life; He is the Life. This means that all who believe in Him, even if they die physically, will live again. And those who live and believe in Him will never truly die, because they already have eternal life within them (Jn 11:25-26).

What an assurance this is for us as Believers! Our hope is not in this temporary life. Our hope is not in our money, connections, or achievements. Our hope is in Jesus, the One who overcame death and gives us victory over it.

The enemy will try to make you fear death or make you feel like itโ€™s over when someone or something dies. But the Word of God says that even in the face of death, we live โ€” because Christ lives in us. He is not only the God of life, but the God who can restore and bring back to life what seems lost.

Beloved in the Lord, the question Jesus asked Martha is the same question He is asking us today: โ€œDo you believe this?โ€ If you do, then no matter what youโ€™re facing today โ€” be it loss, disappointment, or even death โ€” remember that your Savior is the Resurrection and the Life, and Heโ€™s still in control.

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for sending His Son, Jesus, to be our Resurrection and our Life. Letโ€™s ask the Lord to increase our faith so we can trust Him even in the darkest situations, knowing that in Him, there is always hope and new life.

God bless you all.
