And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful Colossians 3:15 KJV

Just before His death and resurrection, the Lord Jesus told His disciples “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you… (John 14:27)”. The very fact that He left His Peace with His disciples is suggestive that it was important in the fulfillment of His purpose for them. Now, the question is, what role does His Peace play in our walk with Him?

Apart from His Peace being an indicator of His Presence, it was also given to guide us in our decision making process. In Collosians 3:15, Apostle Paul said “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts…”. The word rule as used here was translated from the Greek word “brabeuō“, which means to “Arbitrate (or to govern)”. This suggests that His peace is an instrument to make decisions; to decide what the will of God is.

To investigate His Peace as an instrument for decision making, let’s consider a biblical narrative of a decision Apostle Paul made, using His Peace as a factor. 2 Corinthians 2:12-13 reads “Now when I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ and found that the Lord had opened a door for me, I still had no peace of mind, because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia”. Now, despite it was God who opened the door, he chose to leave because he had no peace of mind. What does this tell us about His Peace? Again, when Jesus Christ was instructing His disciples about the home to reside in during their mission work, He said “If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you (Matt. 10:13)”. Meaning, they were to decide based on their peace. 

Many people have walked into trying situations because they ignored the peace of God in their hearts. Even when other prophetic signs are manifesting, if we do not have His Peace about it, it’s not the will of God for us. Choosing like this will help us avoid unnecessary warfare.

Prayer Point.

Let’s thank God for His word today and for giving us His Peace as a governor. Let’s ask Him to help us yield to the voice of His peace.
