When the disciples asked Jesus about the end time, one of the first things He mentioned was, “Watch out that no one deceives you” (Matthew 24:4, NIV). This shows that deception is something to look out for in the end times. This raises an important question: How do you know when someone is deceived?

The deceiver in the end times is the same one who was in the garden. Though he has grown old, his tricks have not changed. When the devil approached Eve and caused her to eat the fruit, he said to her, “You will not surely die” (Genesis 3:4). Through these words, he made Eve believe there would be no consequences for her actions. From this, we learn that a lack of the fear of God—or an unawareness that actions have consequences—is a sign that one has been deceived.

Apostle Paul, an ambassador of the grace of God, said, “For if you live according to the flesh, you will die” (Romans 8:13). A change of covenant does not mean that God is accepting of sin. Beyond the judgment that can come upon a person during their lifetime on earth if they continue in sin, there is also the risk of being rejected at the end. Apostle Paul revealed this when he said:

“But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”
1 Corinthians 9:27 (KJV)

If you find yourself not minding consequences and waning in your fear and love for God, it is a sign that you have been deceived. Therefore, watch out and repent when necessary.
