And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.ย
(1 Corinthians 13:13 NIV)
Love is a subject that we all should make effort to excel in. Apart from it being the very nature of God (1John 4:8), it is the foundation that holds all the principles and laws of the kingdom (Matthew 22:36-39). If we are failing in our love walk, we are failing indeed. Because of this, we need to always check how healthy is our love walk at all times, for it takes intentionality for us to yield ourselves to be empowered by the Holy Ghost to love as He wants us to.
As we know, when we know the value of something, our desire for it increases. Letโs try to see the supremacy of love above all we can desire in the kingdom. Firstly, it is by loving others we reflect the image of God. We all want to be like Christ, and we all want to manifest as Sons of God. However, these are only attained when we walk in love, for God (and Christ) is love (1John 4:8). Jesus speaking to His disciples in John 13:35, encourages them that they should love one another, and by so doing, people (non-disciples) can recognise them as disciples of Jesus Christ. This was later fulfilled in Acts 11:26 when they were called Christians by those who observed them. From this, we do not just declare Christ by what we preach, but by the way we live. And when people see Christ as He truly is through us, then they will follow Him.
Another thing we need to know is that without love, there is no profit in the kingdom. When Jesus and the Apostles taught the word, they emphasized the need for us to be conscious of our heavenly reward (Mark 10:30, 1 Cor. 13:1-3). The life we live in the flesh is an opportunity to make an investment for the life to come. Though there are rewards for life now, only the reward kept for us in heaven can last forever (Matt. 6:19-20). We can only be sure of our heavenly reward if what we did on the earth is inspired and done with love. Paul speaking in 1 Cor. 13:1-3, indicated that us manifesting the gifts of tongues, prophecy, knowledge, faith etc without love amounts to nothing. Despite these are good things, but the will of God is love. Letโs not forget the fate of those people Jesus spoke about in Matthew 7:21-23. They were rejected despite they performed miracles and cast out demons. When we excel in our love walk, then what we do in the name of Christ becomes valuable.
Our spiritual capacity determines how much can be entrusted to us by God. The bible recorded in Matthew 25:14-30, how a man divided talents to his servants based on their abilities, that is their, capacities; the more their ability, the more they were entrusted with. Capacity relates to how much of God you can carry. And from Ephesians 3:14 -19, our comprehension of the dimensions of the love of Christ is directly proportional to the amount of God our vessels can be filled with. Therefore, spiritual capacity is a measure of our ability to love. This means, the more we love, the more of the spiritual blessings and responsibilities that can be entrusted to us. Do you want more from God? Grow in your love walk.
With the above said, we see how much love exceeds other things we can desire in the kingdom.
