Say not to thy neighbour, go, and come again tomorrow. I will give; when thou hast it by thee. (Proverbs 3:8)
There is the story of a famous way that hunters used in catching monkeys. They will get a coconut and bore a hole through just enough to allow the hand of the monkey to get inside and they will fill it with enticing fruits. As soon as he gets his hand inside the coconut, he wants to pack all the fruits to himself because of his greedy nature and this will increase the size of his fist and so he gets trapped trying to pull out his hand and also unwilling to let go of what he has in his hand. He will continue struggling till the hunter gets there. This trap can also be set by the enemy for believers and keep them in the same spot and stagnated where the he can buffet them.
According to Matthew 6: 1-18, there are three duties of man that the Father will reward openly when done accordingly. They are; Giving, Praying and Fasting. Its is quite intriguing that the Lord will categorise giving in the same class with praying and fasting. This means that adequate attention needs to be paid to it. Also in Isaiah 58, the Lord of host was correcting a doctrine about the way children of Israel seek him and instructing them on how to fast and pray to get His attention. In verses 6-9, โIs it not the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of the wicked……….. 7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? When thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thy own flesh. 8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning………9 Then shall thou call, and the Lord shall answer; thou shall cry, and he shall say, Here I am……
It is therefore clear enough that prayers, fasting and giving are three fold cords that cannot be broken in seeking Godโs attention. God had promised Abraham that he was going to be a father of many nations in Genesis 17:4 but He didnโt give him a time frame. The key to unlock that promise was only activated in Genesis 18:3-10 when Abraham entertained strangers unknowingly and then a time was set for His expected miracle because he commanded Godโs attention with his giving. Secondly, we could see King Solomon in 1Kings 3:4 where he sacrificed a thousand burnt offerings unto the Lord and God visited him and gave much more than he asked for.
We must give to the poor and the needy around us. Are there things you have and can do without and you know someone close to you really needs? Why not give to them. Do you have the homeless and hungry around you that you can spare a meal for? Please do this and gladen the heart of the Father. Also, we can give towards the expansion of the kingdom of God like Solomon did for the building of the temple.
This spiritual set up defies human logic and it goes contrary to our definition of increase. In the Kingdom, we give to increase. “For God so love the world, that He gave”. Therefore, whosoever thinks giving is a burden is actually doing themselves a disservice and setting themselves up for stagnation.
Prayer point:
Letโs thank God for His word. Letโs ask God to give us a giving heart that will command his attention and lift the body of Christ as a whole.ย
God bless you all!
