21ย Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (Proverbs 18:21)

10ย For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: (1 Peter 3:10).

By the help of the Lord, we last week began to share insights on the power of the tongue and its influence on our earthly life and largely on our eternal destiny. Although the tongue is a little member of our body, however, it possesses great ability in our life. Nonetheless, it does not always act on its own but reveals the intent, thought, and condition of the heart. We highlighted some distinct points to help us understand the operation of the tongue.

Through the Scriptures, we see that the tongue has the power to affect life or death accordingly. In the previous script,ย  we discussed how one can choose death by using the tongue and several verses of the scripture have helped us with clarity. In this last part, we will conclude also by sharing crucial insight on how one can choose life courtesy of the positive usage of the tongue.

How to choose life by using the tongue;

Just as the tongue has the power to decide one’s ruin, it also has the power to positively influence life in an individual. How does one choose life with the tongue? The Born Again experience which is also salvation by grace is completed by the tongue by confessing Jesus as Lord and Savior! The requirement of spiritual birth consists of believing by the heart and confessing with the mouth (Romans 10:9-11).

Also, when we seek God through prayer, we use our mouths to utter our requests by asking in faith (Matthew 7:7-8, Matthew 6:9-13). When we are baptized in the Holy Spirit, one of the signs is that we speak mysteries in tongues to edify our spirit which is also by using the tongue (Acts 2:1-4, 1 Corinthians 14:1-4). Again, as the Spirit leads we teach doctrine unto edification, exhortation, correction, and reproof by using the tongue (2 Timothy 3:16-17,).

We choose life with the tongue when we are always grateful by using our tongue to praise and glorify God (Revelation 4:8-11, Psalms 136:1-26, Psalms 100:1-5, Matthew 21:1-10, Psalms 8:1-9). We also can use our tongue to bless always! (Romans 12:14, Matthew 5:44).

More so, we use the tongue to prophesy and declare the good promises of God for our life, present situation, or when facing challenges (Isaiah 8:18, 43:2; 54:17). We can use it to speak positive things always with a tender heart giving testimony of God’s ever abundant mercy, protection, grace and kindness (Jeremiah 29:11, Ephesians 5:18-20, Exodus 15:1-21, Judges 5:1-21). It is imperative to communicate good things or give good reports about others when necessary so that they will be encouraged.

Prayer point:

Letยดs thank God for the word, and also ask God to help us use our tongue positively.
