And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. [2] And the Lord said unto Satan, The Lord rebuke thee, O Satan; even the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? [3] Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.ย Zechariah 3:1-3 KJV
In court sessions, one of the requirements by law is that an accused person has a right to defense and that is why even if the person cannot afford a defense lawyer, the state might have to provide one for them for the sake of equity and justice.
In the realm of the spirit, there are court sessions that bring up men as accused and need defense to prevent a negative verdict. Many verdicts have been placed on destinies without having a defense to fight for them when their cases were brought up because the enemy took advantage of them in their low points in life: during grief, during sin, anger, desperation like Esau who sold his birthright and so on. It is better to counter accusations in the spiritย and nullify them so they don’t become verdicts that will manifest in the physical as loss, destruction, death, illnesses, redundancy to mention a few.
In our text today, we see a trial going on and even though it looked like Satan had secured a verdict against Joshua the high priest and had authority to wear him a filthy garment, Godโs mercy still prevailed and he was translated from a state of shame to that of glory. This happened because he had a defense attorney or advocate who could speak on his behalf in a place he had no voice of his own. This was what was lacking on the day the devil accused Job of loyalty and that his service to God and faithfulness was tied to what he was benefiting (Job 1:6-12). How I wish Job had an advocate who could defend him in that room that day, he would not have suffered all that befell him.
The way to perpetually have the advocate defending our case in the courts of heaven is to commit to a life of deliberate holiness utilizing His grace. It is clear that God cannot behold iniquity and if we languish in sin, the grace and mercy of God that guarantees our defense in the courts where accusations are brought against us may be retreated.
Prayer point:
Let’s thank God for His word today. Father, please raise a voice of defense for us where we don’t have a voice of our own in Jesus name.
