and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
โ€ญโ€ญMatthewโ€ฌ โ€ญ7:25โ€ฌ โ€ญNKJVโ€ฌโ€ฌ

The message on the mount was one of the most important messages Jesus Christ taught while on earth. For this message marked the transition from the Law to the Kingdom. Statements like โ€œYou have heard that it was saidโ€ฆBut I say to youโ€ฆ (Matt 5:21, 27, 31, 33, 38, 43)” were an indication of the transition. Therefore, the principles revealed in this message by Jesus is one He expects every Christian to take note of.

When revealing the importance that we take heed to His words, He used an allegory to describe the faith of those who hear His words and don’t obey: In Matthew 7: 24 -27, He described those who hear His words and obey as one who builds his or her house on a rock, and those who hear His words and don’t obey as one who builds his or her house on sand. However, He went on to say that the rain, the floods and the winds beat on both houses, and that which is built on sand (those who hear His words and do not obey) will fall. He described that fall as great.

A house represents the life of a Christian, for our bodies were called the temple (which is a house) of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19). A house can also mean family, marriage, ministry, a business etc depending on the context. From the words of Jesus, what we build without obeying His words will fall. Presently, the wind is blowing, and the quality and location of our houses are being tested. Is your house on solid ground? are you practising the word of God?

God cares for all His children, both the obedient and disobedient ones. For this reason, there is hope for repositioning for those whose houses are on sand; God desires to reposition you from a sandy ground (miry clay) to the mountaintop. The key to this repositioning is obedience to the instructions of God (both His written word and the spoken word). His instruction to the New Testament Church is “… love one another, as I have loved you (John 13:34).

Repent today, you will be divinely repositioned. And your houses (life, family, marriage, business, or ministry) will be saved, for the wind is blowing.

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us live in obedience to Him.
