โ€œAnd if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.โ€ย  ย  Ecclesiastes 4:12 (KJV)

In the writings of Apostle Paul, he exposed more than others the warfare that exists in the faith. Statements like “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal… (2 Cor.10:4 NKJV)”, and “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood (Eph. 6:12)” affirms the truth that we are engaged in a warfare. Though the victory is already ours, the way to manifesting it is faith, for scriptures states “this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith (1 John 5:4 KJV)”.

When Solomon wrote about victory in Ecclesiastics, he revealed a spiritual mystery when he said “And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken (Eccl. 4:12 KJV)”. In other words, two or three will always prevail against one. Knowing that spiritual warfare is legal in nature, Solomon’s assertion resounds the truth that “... In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established (2 Cor. 13:1 KJV)”. By saying ‘established‘ he meant it is sure, without being opposed (it endures). In the same vein, there are three witnesses of faith, that when we posses them, the word of our victory is established.

The first witness of faith is believe in your heart. This simply involves accepting in your heart that what the Lord said is true. The Bible states “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness… ( Roman 10:10)”. This is the first act and witness of faith. After God promised Abraham a child, the Bible recorded that “… he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness ( Gen. 15:6 KJV)”. The second witness of faith is confession. This involves you agreeing with your words what the Lord has said. If you believe in your heart, your words would agree with God, for ” … of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh (Luke 6:45 KJV)”. This act of confession brings us into the experience of that which we believe, for “… with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Rom. 10:10)”. When Abraham received the promise of a child, because he believed God, he kept on giving glory to God by what he said (Rom. 4:20).

The last witness of faith is obedience to instructions. When James was speaking on this subject, he said “Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works (James 2:18). By works he is referring to works of faith. After Abraham received the promise of Isaac, he was tested by God and instructed to sacrifice Isaac. His obedience brought the establishment of the promises, as the Angel of the Lord affirmed the establishment of the blessing he had earlier received (Gen. 22:15-18).

Possessing the full witness of faith (believing, confessing, and obedience), manifesting God’s victory is sure, and His promises are established.

Prayer Point

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us to possess the full witness of faith in every promise He has made to us.
