 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”.(John 1:1)

The word of God has several significance and rich effects on everything it comes across. The basis of every existence in heaven, on earth and everywhere there is life, physical or spiritual, is the word of God. The scripture says that prior to all existence there was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God (John 1:1). Every act of every creation by God was through the word (Genesis 1:1). It is the ultimate authority that is capable of establishing doctrines, teachings, exhortation and correction in all righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16.17). The compilation of the entire scriptures (tables of stone, scrolls) is what we have as the Holy Bible with everything therein as the Word of God. The Bible is not given to us for decoration, however, it is the guide to the believer’s journey in this world of vanity (Joshua 1:8).

The word is life and truth; for it gives support to our spirit’s existence through Christ Jesus and also brings a dead spirit alive (Ephesians 2:2-4). The word itself is the wisdom of God, that divinely projects a man to the realm of supreme knowledge to make him realize that the fear of God is the ultimate duty of a man on earth (Ecclessiastes 12:13-14; Proverbs 9:10; Job 28:28). The word of God is love made flesh bringing salvation unto all men (John 1:14, Hebrews 2:10). The word of God is also light that shines and dazzles the darkness (ignorance) of men thus illuminating them to walk in glory and knowledge of the truth that saves (Psalms 119:130). The word melts and transforms a stubborn heart to dwell in perpetual obedience (Jeremiah 23:29). The word has power to heal sicknesses and restore broken spirits (Psalm 107:20).

The word of God is hope to the hopeless. The hope it gives is not just the demonstration of earthly provisions/material rewards, but also the true hope that we shall reign forever with Him in His glory (Colossians 1:27, 1 Corinthians 15:19). The word is the true spiritual food that provides nourishment to the soul of a man (Jeremiah 15:16, Deuteronomy 8:3); the bread of life that satisfies the hunger of man’s soul and spirit (John 6:47-56). By hearing it, Faith comes alive, hence spiritual growth and awareness (Romans 10:17). The word of God is bigger and superior to our choices, desires, ego and concepts.

Dearly beloved, we need to also understand that the word of God above all, is bigger than prophesies, dreams, revelations, encounters, visions and worships. For it is the yardstick used to determine the accuracy of all those things. Meaning that, if any of these things don’t align and submit to the counsel of the  perfect word of God (the scriptures), we should know there are errors somewhere! Because evil spirits and demons can still speak through those mediums. May God help us.
