Title โย Together to gather ย
But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, โEvery kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a divided household falls (Luke 11:17 ESV)
The Great Commission is undoubtedly the greatest and most important assignment of the body of Christ Jesus. The church (a group of individuals with a divine purpose) is the key driving force behind the Great Commission. Satan, knowing that the church can do exploits if they are of one accord, often bring trivial issues to divide the church and distract the church from this goal. No church can stand and do much when there is division.
In today’s verse, we read about Jesus making some emphatic statements about the need for oneness and unity to succeed. Jesus had cast out demons, and the people alleged that He was operating with the spirit of Beelzebul, the prince of demons. Others also sought another sign from Jesus. But Jesus, knowing their thoughts pointed out to them that if He operates with the spirit of Beelzebul, there was no way He could have cast out the demons.
The Christian call is a call to harvest. We have been saved to save others too. This fact is evident in the words of Jesus when he instructed His disciples to pray to the Lord of the harvest to bring in more labourers to the harvest field (Matthew 9:38). The purpose of labourers in the vineyard is to harvest/gather the fruits. However, as labourers in the vineyard, we must have one purpose and one goal. Evangelism and the quest for souls to be saved is a battle against the kingdom of Satan. Hence, when there is division and enmity within the church, the gathering process will not be effective.
The statement of Jesus Christ in our verse for today is a classic example of the need for oneness and togetherness to achieve the purpose of setting people free from the Kingdom of Darkness and bringing them into the Kingdom of Light.ย The message for today is that there is the need for the body of Christ to be one to draw people to God. One can chase a thousand, but two can put ten thousand to flight (Deuteronomy 32:30). If two, not one, of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven (Matthew 18:19). There is strength in togetherness. May God help His church to be one.
Prayer: Let us pray and thank God for His word today. Also, let us pray that God will grant the body of Christ an understanding of the need for togetherness and oneness to win the battle against the kingdom of darkness. Finally, let us pray for the grace and mercies of God for any church in which there is division, that they should be one, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
God bless you all!
