Title: Treasure in Eathen Vessel
By: Daniel Peter
Date: 20.11.2023
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.ย ย 2 Cor. 4:7 NKJV
God’s eternal attributes are seen from what He created (Rom. 1:20-21); by carefully investigating the creation, the truth that God is all wise and powerful is easy to see. Knowing this, one may ask, “Why would God who is all wise and powerful create humans that are so flawed?”.
Reading through the scriptures, we will notice that mankind was not the beginning of the works of God. Races of beings have had civilisations before the events that led to the creation of Adam. One of those created before Adam was Lucifer. When describing Lucifer, the Lord called him “the seal of perfection (Ezekiel 28:12)”. He was full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. This was not one you will consider weak, but strong. However, his strength became the reason for His fall, for he became proud because of his beauty and corrupted his wisdom (Ezekiel 28:17).
When creating mankind, God decided to make us earthen (weak). Our weaknesses are seen in different areas of our lives. This was so because He didn’t want us to fall into the same condemnation of the devil. The excelling nature of His wisdom was demonstrated when He decided to hide the greatest treasure inside of man (2 Cor. 4:7). The treasure is Himself; the knowledge of the light of the glory of God (2 Cor. 4:6). As scriptures said, for whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed (Mark 4:22 NIV). God desires that His glory which is hidden inside of us is made manifest in our lives.
Now, the area of our weaknesses is the area where God chooses to make His glory manifest. He told Apostle Paul “My strength is made perfect in weaknesses (2 Cor. 12:9 KJV8)”. This means that, from our unique challenges (weaknesses), we can discern what God would do if we remain faithful to Him. For example, Abraham was childless for many years, yet he became the father of many nations. Jesus Christ was despised and rejected by the leaders of His days, yet He became the source of eternal salvation (Hebrew 5:9). You may be sick in your body now, but from you healing will flow to the nations, or you may be broke and without a job, but God has ordained you to be an employer of labour.
Our weaknesses are turned into strengths when we glorify God in them. This was what Abraham and the Apostle Paul did (Rom. 4:19, 2 Cor. 12:9). We glorify God by thanking Him for the unpleasant situation and for that which we expect from Him.
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us glorify Him in our situation.
