ย “Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment”. (1 Corinthians 1:10)

The body of Christ is not an edifice neither a physical building but the people who are called and separated from the world. In the new dispensation, we all who are chosen as light to the world and heaven ambassadors are the body of Christ, as He redeemed and purchased us with His precious blood, we are therefore governed by the law of grace through Christ Jesus. The body of Christ is central, however, has different roles just as the human body is one but has different organs that work unanimously to achieve the same objective which is growth and development of an individual. The overall functions of the body of Christ aims at evangelism, healing, prophecy, Salvation etc and there are certain offices that need to be occupied, such as that of an Apostle, Pastor, Prophet Preacher, Teacher nevertheless, none is glorified above the others.

In contemporary times, we see that the body of Christ is literally divided by denominations and church doctrines. In fact, one of the great setbacks the body of Christ is facing is denominational affiliations, church doctrines and traditions. These days you see a Pentecostal member does not attend the Catholic church, or a Protestant member discriminating against Anglican, or an Orthodox member will rather not go to the nearest assembly of God’s people simply because they are Methodists. Sometimes, it becomes a mockery or subject of gossip among denominations. All these are not necessary! the body of Christ is one and not divided, we should not be separated by denomination or church traditions. We should also know that denominations and church tradition are concept of men and what matters before God is genuine Salvation, holiness without which no one shall see the Lord.

The early Apostles and disciples of Christ did not go about creating denominations or traditions that stall the gospel, instead, they fellowship together, broke bread together and did common things together in love. Silas never said since Paul does not come from my church denomination or locality, I therefore will go preach the Gospel with my church brother. The life they lived made even the unbelievers know that they are Christ-like, this should be a lesson to us that despite where we come from, what church we used to attend, how we used to sing praise and worship, we remain united in purpose.

Prayer point:

Let’s thank God for today. Let’s ask Him to give the grace to be united in Christ
