Title: Wait upon the Lord

31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
I had something else I was eager to write about this morning. But I discerned the Spirit directing me to rather write on this today. Then I looked at our previous call to prayer posts this week to see if there has been an emphasis on trusting the Lord and persevering and yes indeed there was, and I said maybe I shouldn’t bother again. But You know, the word is not always about something new but can also be just a reminder. So today, I am writing on waiting on the Lord. Other translations to our opening verse say: trusting in the lord.
We see from the opening verse, that one of the rewards of trusting in the Lord is mounting up with wings as eagles, running and not getting tired… This speaks of supernatural strength. How can a human run and not be tired? That’s because they are not running on their own but are helped by God. Their strength is renewed; they are refreshed as they continue to put their trust in the Lord.
Our trust in the Lord is boosted when we look at His track record in the bible and our own lives. When we remember these things, it boosts our faith or trust in Him. Aside from the scriptures, what are those times He came through for you and the testimonies of others? Do you simply forget them? Perhaps Abraham’s biggest test was when God asked him to sacrifice his son. But this test didn’t come before a previous track record of God proving His faithfulness in Abraham’s life. Hebrews 11:19 says “Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead…” and the previous verse 11:18, suggests why Abraham reasoned like this. It says, “even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”. So, expanding on that, you see Abraham believed God could raise Isaac from death because He had seen God as faithful by this time. So, Abraham reasoned: Since God has kept His promise of giving me a child, God will keep His promise of giving me descendants through Isaac. But since God is asking me to sacrifice this same Isaac now, it means that God will surely bring him back to life to fulfil His promise to me.
So, in conclusion, my emphasis today is that we always remember God’s faithful acts and trust in Him to do it again and again. This is one of the ways we receive grace through faith to wait and trust upon Him to deliver us.
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for His everlasting faithfulness. Let’s pray for the grace to trust in Him with all our hearts and obey His instructions.
