No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize
1 Corinthians 9:27 NIV
Shortly before He went to the cross, Jesus Christ said to the Father, “I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one” (John 17:22 NIV). The word “glory” was translated from the Greek word “Doxa,” which means “all that God is and has,” that is, “His character, power, and prosperity.”
The moment we gave our lives to Christ, the glory of God becomes resident in our spirit. However, the manifestation of this glory is not immediate, just like Jesus Christ, who was born with the fullness of God in Him, but waited until He was thirty years old before the glory was manifested for all to see (John 2:11). The waiting time for His glory to manifest is different for each individual and depends on God’s purpose for them and their alignment with Him.
At the manifestation of His glory, we are enabled by the Holy Spirit to perform certain supernatural acts at will. This manifestation is not dependent on our works (righteousness, fasting, prayers) but simply on faith. The overwhelming nature of the supernatural acts can be so exciting that if we do not learn to walk with God in the glory, we may walk away from God because of our flesh, being deceived by the miracles manifesting through us.
To help us understand this, I will share an observation in this regard. One whom I consider a father in the faith shared that for a period of time, he didn’t fast, yet the glory of God in the form of miraculous power was manifesting through him greatly. Then he said to himself, “I am not fasting, but manifesting power greatly.” Then he heard the voice of God say to him, “You need fasting to walk with Me.”
We walk in the glory by being sensitive to the voice of God and doing what He says. Spiritual disciplines like prayer, fasting, word study, and giving help us stay sensitive to the Spirit of God. The anointing upon us will cause the miraculous to manifest, but it’s by the anointing within that we walk with Him. For us to receive what He is saying from within us, our flesh needs to always be in subjection (put under).
Prayer Point
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us stay sensitive to Him.
