Title: What Do I Get?

Then Peter answered and said to Him, โ€œSee, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?โ€

ย (Matthew 19:27 KJV)

Apostle Peter once asked our Lord Jesus a particular question which I believe is still relevant in our days. This happened after the encounter between our Lord Jesus and the Richman who was looking for eternal life. When our Lord Jesus asked this Richman to go and sell all his possessions and give to the poor, he went away sorrowful. The Lord then said that it is very hard for a Richman to enter the Kingdom of Heaven (Matt 19.23-24).

The Disciples were greatly surprised by this statement. At that point, they didnโ€™t know the kind of kingdom that our Lord Jesus came to establish on this earth. They thought that the Lord would establish an earthly Kingdom which will overcome the Romans. They would then become rulers in this Kingdom having a lot of wealth, riches, and possessions. Thatโ€™s why they argued over who among them will be the greatest in the Lordโ€™s Kingdom (Luke 22:24). Therefore, they were really shocked to hear the statement the Lord made. Does it mean they cannot achieve their dreamed riches in this Kingdom?

Apostle Peter then gathered courage and asked our Lord Jesus that they have left everything to follow Him. What will they get? What reward will they get for all the sacrifices? This is a question that most Christians usually ask. Many have sacrificed a lot for the Kingdom. Some have sacrificed their family-time, fun-time, money, family, etc. to do the work of God. Some have risked their lives to carry the Gospel to Nations where the Gospel is prohibited. Some have to endure insults, harassment, hardships and persecutions for the Lordโ€™s sake.

So, upon all these sacrifices, what do we get in return? Our Lord Jesus provided an answer to this question. He has assured us that everyone who has given up house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the Kingdom of God, will be repaid many times over in this life, and will have eternal life in the world to come (Luke 18:29-30).

Simply put, the Lord will definitely reward us for our work and sacrifices. We will receive some of the rewards on earth, in Heaven and in the new world to come. God is not a man to forget our Labor of Love (Heb 6:10). He is faithful and true to His word. Once He has promised to reward us, we are very confident that He will do it.

Beloved in the Lord, letโ€™s therefore continue to do our work and Assignments with Love and make sacrifices to ensure that the Will of God is being done on earth, knowing that our labor will surely be rewarded. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord (1 Cor 15:58).

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His Word today. Letโ€™s ask the Lord to help all Believers to be conscious that our Labor for Him will be rewarded. Letโ€™s also ask the Lord to help all Believers to do their Kingdomโ€™s Work and Assignments with Love.

God bless you all
