Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.” [3] Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. (2 Kings 4:2-3 NIV)
In every seed bearing fruit there is at least a seed and that means it carries the potential to become a tree even as a little fruit. So also, God has planted in every man the seeds that will distinguish them in life and destiny and that is why no two people have the same fingerprint even though babies are being born everyday since time immemorial.
In our text today, the prophet was looking for the seed the woman possessed which was a jar of oil as a point of contact for blessing her. Yours might be wisdom, oratory prowess, ability to sell anything, teaching skills, good sense of humour, ability to sing, amongst many other giftings and graces that the Lord might have endowed you with. This is the jar of oil in your house and the instruction that followed was that you should borrow a lot of empty vessels.
The empty vessels simply refers to people around you, people you can reach and people in your sphere of influence. These giftings and graces are to be poured into their numerous vessels that it will be evident that you have filled a lot with what you carry. As believers, we carry the life of God in us and we are meant to evangelise and fill our neighbours, friends and acquaintances with this divine life of God so they do not perish.
God has invested a lot in you and like our Lord asked his disciples in Mark 6:38, he is also asking you today: what do you have? The Lord is able to transform it and bring abundance to you through it. He could use it as a medium of saving souls for His kingdom. You have a responsibility to start gathering vessels to pour your oil into which the Lord will use to transform your life and destiny or use as a medium to exalt His holy name in the land and expand His territory. So, the question again is what do you have?
Prayer point:
Let us thank God for His word today. Letโs pray for the grace to identify the deposits of God within us and capacity to pour it into others.
