Title โ What do you have on your CV?
Luke 7:5 Because he loves our nation and he built us our synagogue [at his own expense] (Amplified Bible).
The title of todayโs message may draw attention to a job application. However, this message is not a CV writing tutorial or advice on what should be on a job-winning CV. Though we can see it from that perspective, this is more spiritually inclined. Often, when employers are recruiting applicants for a vacant position, other things being equal, the applicant with the most appealing CV, in terms of work experience and academic credentials, is the one that is deemed fit for the job.
In todayโs Call to Prayer, the question we are asking ourselves is; what do we have on our spiritual CV? In Luke 7:1-10, where we got our key verse for the day, we read that a centurion (an officer who commands a hundred people) had a special servant who became sick and was at the point of death. The centurion knowing what Jesus has done and what he can do sent the elders to Him. In our key verse for the day, we read that when the elders went to Jesus, they presented the centurionโs CV to Jesus. This man has provided them with a place of worship, a place where they can connect with God, and I believe this pleased Jesus. Also, they made mention of his love for the nation, which, I believe, would have something to do with donations and other services.
After carefully scrutinising the centurionโs CV, Jesus realised that the man was qualified and worthy for Him to come before him to heal his servant. Though we read in later verses that the man acted with faith, and for that reason, Jesus did not come before him. Nevertheless, Luke 7:6 says that Jesus was on his way to the centurionโs house. Today, the question we should ponder is, what have we done for the work of the kingdom of God to deserve the intervention and presence of God in our situation? What do we have on our CV? If your spiritual CV is empty, then start building some spiritual work experience and academic qualifications.
Prayer: Let us take time to thank God for His word today. Let us also pray for the grace, empowerment, and strength to do the work of God, and to utilise the gifts that God has given us for the work of the kingdom of God.
