Title: What You Hear
There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.
(1 Corinthians 14:10 KJV)
ย
A man of God I know shared a story about his friend who lived with his uncle. When the friend was young, he heard his uncle saying several times that โlouver blades are expensiveโ. He therefore decided not to buy louver blades when he builds his house in the future. He grew up, got a good Job, got married and built his own house.
One day, it rained heavily, and his room was flooded because the windows were not properly sealed. His friend came around and advised him to use louver blades, but he quickly replied that they are expensive. When the friend told him the cost of one louver blade, he wept bitterly because he could have afforded about thousands of them. He didnโt use louver blades for the windows because based on what he had heard his whole life, they are expensive.
The truth is that our future is shaped by what we see and hear. We will at the end become what we hear and listen to. I am an Engineer by profession, and my wife is a Nurse. How did this happen? This is because I spent several years of my life watching and listening to Mathematics, Physics, and other engineering-related topics. My wife on the other hand spent several years of her life watching and listening to Biology, Anatomy, and other health-related topics.
There are many different voices in this world, and none is without significance (1 Cor 14:10). Every voice that you hear will one way or the other impact your life. Thatโs why we must be careful and mindful of what we hear and who we listen to. This includes being selective of the kind of music we listen to. This is because some of these worldly songs may seem like just normal love songs, but they can create lustful pleasures in you. Letโs also be careful of the kind of advice we listen to from our friends, colleagues, and family members.
Not all old people are wise and so donโt just listen and follow any advice from an old person if it is ungodly. I know several ladies who are finding it difficult to get married and stay married because they heard from their single mothers their whole life that, โmen are thrashโ. I also know some men who find it difficult to accept the opinion and ideas of a woman because they grew up being told that, โwomen are dumb and only used for pleasure and procreationโ.
Beloved in the Lord, letโs be careful and mindful of who and what we listen to because our future is shaped by what we hear. Letโs therefore listen to whatever things that are pure, true, godly, and uplifting (Phil 4:8). ย Letโs spend time listening to Preachings, Bible audio, Gospel messages and motivational messages. We will at the end become what we hear and listen to. Who and what do you listen to?
Prayer Point:
Letโs thank God for His word today. Letโs ask the Lord to help all Believers to always listen to whatever things that are pure, true, godly, and uplifting.
God bless you all
