Title: When The Storm Comes

Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

(Matthew 7:24-25 NKJV)

When building a House, the Architects will tell you that the foundation is the most important part. This is because the foundation supports the entire frame of the Building and prevents groundwater from entering your home. Any issues with the foundation can harm the house, making it unsafe to live inside it. A strong and sturdy foundation, therefore, is key to a long-lasting and dependable home. Thatโ€™s why the Architects would usually like to first survey the Land and check the soil in order to be able to design a befitting Foundation-Plan. During Construction, the builders usually dig deep and put in a lot of Iron rods, Gravels and Mortar to fortify the foundation.

In Matthew 7, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ talked about two types of Builders: The Wise and the Foolish Builder. The Wise Builder built his house on a solid rock and it was able to withstand severe rain, storm, and flood. The Foolish Builder on the other hand built on sand and as a result, his house couldnโ€™t withstand the adverse Weather Conditions and collapsed. A Wise Builder is one who hears the Word of God, obeys, and put into practice everything He says, and a Foolish Builder is one hears the word of God, ignores, or disobeys and donโ€™t live his/her life according to the Word.

It is very important for us to know that the difference between these two types of builders is not that one heard the word and the other didnโ€™t but how they acted after hearing the same word. Two Believers can be in the same Church and listen to the same messages, but the word will cause a great transformation in the life of one Believer while the life the other Believer remains the same. I have seen many people who have been in Church for a long time, but their Spiritual life is the same; they donโ€™t grow. I have also seen many people come to the same Church and grow quickly in their Spiritual life. This is because most of the people who have been in the Church for long time become familiar with the Pastor and donโ€™t take his message serious. Some people even take offence when the message comes as a rebuke.

Life is full of Storms; Trials may come. As a Believer, you may lose a loved one, lose your Job, be unemployed, fall sick, experience rejections, go through a painful divorce, and go through many trials. The ability of your Faith to stand these trials depends on how well your foundation is built. I have seen many Believers lose their Faith when they experience Trials; Some even committed suicide.

Beloved in the Lord, Christ Jesus is our solid rock and the foundation on which we build our lives. We build our lives on Him by first accepting Him as our Lord and personal savior, and then living our lives in obedience to Him and His Word. My question for you today is, which type of builder are you? Which one do you choose to be today?

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His Word today. Letโ€™s ask God to help all Believers around the world to be obedient to His Word and become Wise Builders. Letโ€™s also ask God to strengthen our Faith to withstand every Storm of Life.
