Title: Where is Your Treasure?

โ€ฆbut lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. ย (Matthew 6:19-21 NKJV)

There is this story about these two good friends who heard about an ancient treasure which was hidden somewhere in their village. This treasure was worth a lot of money. They therefore agreed to go on a quest to discover this hidden treasure. Before, they set off for their journey, they made an agreement to share the treasure equally. However, as they got closer to finding the treasure, both became greedy and selfish, and each of them planned to keep all for himself. Each of them set a trap for the other. They were both caught in each otherโ€™s trap and died at the end, leaving the treasure behind.

A treasure is any possession that is highly valued by its owner. Because a treasure is valuable to the owner, it is mostly handled with great care and safety and in most cases, even hidden. The truth is that in this world we all have something that we treasure so much. Most people in the world treasure money, wealth, riches, possessions, and fame. These people are willing to use any possible means to obtain these things; some even kill for it. My question for you today is what is your treasure? Where have you kept it?

Our Lord Jesus Christ in the above Scriptures is advising us not to only store up treasures on earth because there are a lot of dangers associated with it. You will one day die and leave all the earthly possessions behind for other people to enjoy them (Eccl 3:2). Judgement awaits after death and in the time of judgement, all your earthly possessions are useless (Heb 9:27).

Earthly treasures or possessions can be stolen. They can also be lost or be destroyed. I know some people who placed all their investments in stocks and lost everything when the market crashed. These people went to bed rich and woke up poor and indebted. What shall it then profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul (Mark 8:37)?

Knowing this, letโ€™s store up our treasures in Heaven where their safety is fully assured. Letโ€™s make the Kingdom of God our greatest treasure and seek it and His righteousness above everything else (Matthew 6:33). Become Born Again by believing and confessing Jesus Christ as your savior and contribute your part to ensure that the Kingdom of God is established on earth as it is in Heaven. Our Lord Jesus is not saying we should not work but we donโ€™t have to place anything including our Jobs above our service to God.

Beloved in the Lord, letโ€™s not lay up our treasures on earth because they can be stolen, destroyed, lost and we will also die and leave them behind. However, letโ€™s lay up our treasures in Heaven by contributing our part to ensure that the Kingdom of God is established on earth as it is in Heaven. What is your treasure? Where have you kept it?

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His word today. Letโ€™s ask the Lord to help all Believers to lay up our treasures in Heaven.

God bless you all
