Title: Who do you say I am?

14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Mathew 16:14-15
Today I would like us to reflect on who Jesus is to us personally. The way you see Jesus is a measure of how much you know Jesus. And the more you know Jesus, the more you can benefit from Jesus.
I always love to use analogies. If you know about a celebrity, you can barely benefit anything from them other than enjoying their content, which is great but not all there is to them. But if you know them as a friend then you have access to more benefits; Talk less of you knowing them as a brother or sister or spouse. I hope now you understand better the kind of knowing I am talking about.
Knowing Jesus as a prophet is good. You can benefit from his prophecies. Knowing Jesus as a teacher is great; You can benefit from His teachings which are also applicable to wise decision making. However to gain the fullness of what Jesus offers you must recognize Him for who He truly is; that is, our savior, the son of the living God, as Apostle Peter would say in the verse that follows the opening verse (Matthew 16:16).
Until you recognize and accept Jesus as savior and son of God who is one with God, Jesus cannot save you, Jesus cannot transform you and in summary, you can not get the best of Jesus. When you read further from the opening verse, Mathew 16: 16-20, you will see the benefits Peter had access to for seeing and acknowledging Jesus for who He is.
The tactic of the Devil is to blind men from seeing Jesus or to see Jesus for less than who He is. They say He is a great guy (like a celebrity); Good! but Jesus wants to be more than a great guy you simply know about, He wants to be your father, your friend, your Lord, and your King, only then can you truly benefit from the eternal riches and glory of Jesus. Jesus wants to come closer but we must see Him and welcome Him.
Prayer Point:
Let’s pray that we will know Jesus more and more so that He can manifest all that He is in our lives and nothing less.
