A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, โ€œTeacher, donโ€™t you care if we drown?โ€.ย He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, โ€œQuiet! Be still!โ€ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.ย He said to his disciples, โ€œWhy are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?โ€ย ย Mark 4:37-41

Recently in our “Call To Prayer” we have been reading a lot about Faith. And just like every topic in the word of God, we need to continue to hear it again and again until we depart from this earth. God says the righteous shall live by Faith. (Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11, Hebrews 10:38). As a child of God, Faith is our modus operandi for living. In fact when we find ourselves doubting, disbelieving, or afraid let us quickly repent because we can be assured we are grieving the Holy Spirit in us. For it is written without faith it is impossible to please God…(Hebrews 11:6).

We all go through challenges in life. We have things that should be a cause for concern based on the worldly mind. Your friends are getting married, you are still single. Others have children but you have none. You are job hunting. You have a crisis in your marriage. The worldly mind thinks everything is a product of their effort and when the result is clearly above that, ย instead of giving glory to God, they call it chance or luck. As believers, we know better! Jesus is in control (and you have to continue putting Him in control). We work but He is our provider(Psalm 127:1, Psalm 23, Mathew 6:26). He is our defender(Psalm 91). What this means is even when physically it seems otherwise don’t forget He also says it will turn out for your good (Romans 8:28.). He has done it before and will keep doing it. (e.g Despite what you see, Peter Obi will be President in 2023). Even His beloved son was crucified and is now glorified.

We hear Jesus in the opening verse today crying outWhy are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”.ย The apostles by this time had seen Jesus perform so many miracles. Surely they should have known by now this is God’s son. Yet with Jesus on that boat, because of a storm, they were believing the possibility of them dying in that boat. Beloved in Christ, that boat may shake as an earthquake, but with Jesus in your boat, you can be 100 percent guaranteed it can’t sink. It must end well! It pleases God when we trust in Him. Cast your cares upon Him(1 Peter 1:7) and just focus on your assignments today(Mathew 6:33).

Prayer Point:ย

Let’s pray for the grace not to take this God we serve lightly. He is faithful and it pleases Him when we trust in Him.
