Title: Why Should We Preach The Gospel?

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.  (Romans 1:16 NKJV)

In last week’s Call to Prayer, we learnt that we are living in the end times and the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ is fast approaching but there are so many people who haven’t even heard about His first coming. Therefore, as Christians, we don’t have to be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ. We have to use every opportunity we get to preach salvation which is in Jesus Christ to the world. I would like share with you some of the reasons why every Christian should be involved in preaching the Gospel.

The first reason is that it is our main work as Christians (Matt 28:18-20, Mark 16:15-18). One of the final words of our Lord Jesus is what the Bible Scholars have termed as “The Great Commission”. He commanded all His followers to go into the world and preach the Gospel to everyone. The Disciples and the early Christians obeyed this command and that’s why the Gospel has been able to reach many parts of the world today.

Some of us whose forefathers were Idol-Worshippers have now come to know the True God due to some Christians who obeyed “The Great Commission” (Missionaries). We have to know that it is the work of every Christian to preach the Gospel. However, we have now left the work to only Pastors, Evangelists, and some few serious Christians. Let’s obey the Lord and use every opportunity to preach the Gospel.

Also, Souls can only be saved by preaching the Gospel of Christ (Rom 10:13-15). God loves the world and that’s why He sent Jesus Christ to pay the price for our sins even after we have rejected and rebelled against Him (Rom 5:8). The will of God is for all men to be saved and not to perish (1 Tim 2:3-4, 2 Peter 3:9). However, He has given us our own “Will” and that’s why we can decide to choose Him or reject Him. The Gospel of Christ has the power to turn the hearts of men to God and save all who believe. As I explained last week, prayer cannot replace preaching of the Gospel. Let’s therefore pray for souls and also use every opportunity to preach the Gospel.

We must preach the Gospel because one of the reasons why the Holy Spirit was given is for this purpose (Luke 4:18, Acts 1:8). The Lord knows that there is a work to be done on this earth, and we cannot accomplish it with our own strength. That’s why He gave us the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit empowers us and gives us the boldness to preach the Gospel. He also directs us to where we should go and gives us the words we should say in every situation.

Last but not the least, preaching of the Gospel shows that we love God (John 14:21-24, 1 John 2:3-5). If you ask every Christian if he/she loves God, the respond will be “Yes, I do”. However, our love for God is not revealed in what we say but in what we do. If we love the Lord, we will obey His Word and Commandment. One of His Commandments is “The Great Commission”. He has also commanded us to love our neighbor (John 15:12). If we love your neighbors, we will preach the Gospel to them, so they don’t perish.

Beloved in the Lord, there are many people in the world who do not know Jesus Christ as their savior. People are dying day in and day out and are heading to hell. The end time harvest of Souls is plentiful and many laborers are therefore required (Matt 9:36-37). Jesus died for all these people. Let’s make them aware of this! Let’s use every opportunity to preach the Gospel because it is the power of God to save all who believe.

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for the gift of Salvation. Let’s ask the God of the harvest to place the burden of salvation of souls in the hearts of all believers around the world. Let’s also ask God to help us to be more sensitive to the opportunities and doors He opens for preaching the Gospel.
