Wisdom is a shelter, just as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves those who have it. Ecclesiastes 7:12 (NIV)
King Solomon wrote, “Whatever is has already been, and what will be has been before…” (Eccl. 3:15). This means that whatever the world is experiencing now – famine, inflation, natural disasters, wars, and rumors of war – has been seen on earth before. God, in His faithfulness to humanity, has always preserved His own from the evil in the world. As we look at the past, we can gain insight into how to handle the trials of our day.
When God decided to judge the old world by sending a flood upon the earth, Noah accessed a wisdom that led to the preservation of his life and that of his family members. This wisdom manifested in having foresight about what was coming and the insight to build an ark where he, his family, and a few of every animal were preserved.
Something similar happened in the days of Joseph. The earth experienced a famine that spread around the world, but Pharaoh was given revelation about this event through his dream. God gave Joseph the wisdom to understand Pharaoh’s dream and what to do, leading to the preservation of lives.
From the above, we see that wisdom is God’s means for preservation. This is why Scripture says, “Wisdom preserves those who have it” (Eccl. 7:12). Now, how did Noah and Joseph access this wisdom? It was through the voice of God. For the Scriptures say, “For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding” (Prov. 2:6). So, those who are wise are always in expectation to hear the voice of God.
God speaks through different means: through the scriptures, audible voice, dreams, and visions, etc. For us to hear His voice, we have to be in tune with Him. The practice of intimacy with God helps us to be in tune with Him and increases our sensitivity to His voice.
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us stay in tune with Him so we can access His voice.
