Worship is the act of showing God honor, reverence, and devotion. One of the ways we are instructed in the Word to worship God is through thanksgiving. Thanksgiving, which is an act of showing gratitude to God, is one of the greatest expressions of faith.

Someone once said, “Those who possess the ability to think deeply and reflectively are more likely to cultivate a sense of gratitude.” Indeed, when we reflect on God’s goodness in our lives, our hearts will be filled with thanksgiving. Jesus Christ demonstrated the power of thanksgiving in John 6:11, when He multiplied the few loaves of bread and fish after giving thanks to God. Similarly, when He raised Lazarus from the dead, He gave thanks, saying, “…Father, I thank you that you have heard me” (John 11:41 NIV). Like Jesus Christ, when we give thanks to God, regardless of our circumstances, we will see His power manifest, and we will receive multiplied increases in the areas of our thanksgiving.

In Luke 17, Jesus emphasized the importance of gratitude. In the story of the ten lepers, we see how He made whole the one leper who returned to give thanks, while the other nine healed lepers did not (Luke 17:11-19). There is always more in God, but thanking Him for what we already have positions us for it.

What situation are you facing today? Have you tried every means to overcome it but haven’t seen results? Try worshiping with thanksgiving and see how God will turn your situation around, just as He did for Paul and Silas when they were in prison (Acts 16:25-26). Philippians 4:6 reminds us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Give thanks in every circumstance. I pray that as you worship with gratitude, God will show Himself mighty in Jesus’ name.

Let’s thank God for all He has done and what He is set to do in your life. Thank Him concerning that situation, because we believe He’ll answer.
